Most entries from this point forward will be friends-only. Picspams will probably still be public, and some old entries are, until I get around to locking them down.

I'll add just about anyone though, just leave a comment. :)

If you're on FB or Twitter, you've seen this already, and I'm starting to look a little self-indulgent.
But cute! I'm making this face on purpose, but it's kind of my favourite picture of myself this summer.
(yeah, it's summer and too fucking cold to go outside without a bunny hug on. fuck that!)

And with a new bunnyhug. Purple! Plaid!

Also: bottom right corner, oh hai Velma Dinkley!

I uploaded new items to my etsy today and might finish making a dress to go with the new shoes I got on friday.

um..
um...

that's it.

This past weekend was lots of fun. it seems to me like the weekend just ended because i was off on Monday and Tuesday.
I was at the folk festival on Saturday and Sunday. I had 12 hours of volunteer work to do, and then the rest of the time I was just folk-festing.

Saturday morning I got to work with the site crew, setting up stuff on stage (bass amps are heavy!), and getting other things ready around the main stage and backstage areas. It was pretty cool. I got to listen to the Wailers soundcheck while we worked in the morning.

I only took like one picture the entire weekend, because I was too busy just enjoying myself to bother with pulling my camera out.

Jay Malinowski from Bedouin Soundclash playing one of the afternoon stages, along with Bhasia Bulat.

I didn't stay for the evening shows on Saturday because I just didn't feel like being in the park any longer. I was still feeling kind of sad and stressed out from the week and just wanted to be at home.

Sunday was fun though. I had to work in the children's area from 1-5, which seriously had me stressed out thinking about it. It was okay though, as I just had to help with crafts. I was basically just in charge of the glue gun. Kids would make crafts, show me was needed to be glued, and I'd glue it. So it went well. And I was under a big canopy for most of the time, so I didn't even get sunburned.
Friday night and most of Saturday was cloudy, windy and threatening to rain. But it was really nice out on Sunday, finally. I had dinner and laid in the grass after my children's area shift and listened to Loudon Wainwright perform. The sun was out and everyone was relaxing in the park and it just felt really idyllic and perfect. I felt happy and peaceful.

My last shift was the slackest shift ever. It was from 8-midnight, working environment, which basically meant cleaning up garbage around the park. But we basically just stood around, listening to the music and cleaning up a bit every half hour or so. My co-volunteers knew I wanted to see Corb Lund, who was playing shortly after 10PM. Just before he started, I asked the team leader what he wanted me to do after I was done with some recycling and he was like "go have fun, come back here at 11". So I got to take off and go right into the crowd at the front of the stage and watch Corb! It was awesome. And we were done cleaning up and at the after party before our shift was even over.
Corb Lund's show was really fun. I know he's a country artist, but I never really think about that when I'm listening to his music. Probably because I generally don't like contemporary country music (I like the older stuff), and because he used to sing for the Smalls! punk rock!
But in the crowd, it was a sea of white cowboy hats and "yee-haws!" I was like oh my god, what am I doing here?! I still had a really good time though. His music makes me miss Alberta so, so much.

The after party was fun too. The sunday night party was just for the 500+ volunteers. It was free to get in and had free food. Lots of the performers showed up as well - Dave Lang, Corb Lund, the No Luck Club, Chic Gamine, etc. I stayed until about 2 and then had to go home before I fell asleep.

It was a pretty great experience and an awesome way to get into the festival for free. The 12 hours I put in throughout the weekend did not seem like work at all. And I met a lot of great people.
There were three girls that I just know of from around town that I have crushes on and I met their girlfriends/boyfriends this weekend. Totally awesome.
Also? This town is totally lacking in cute boys. Although I say that everywhere I go, so maybe there are just more cute girls than boys in the world. IDK.

When I got back to work today, I found out that I won a giftcard of my choice for a monthly draw that we have. Most people choose HMV or Best Buy or a restaurant. I was like "Michael's Crafts!" haha. nerd. I need a new croquis book though! I want a little one for my purse that I can use for a journal and for drawing.

blahblahblah.. I should go make lunch for tomorrow. payday cannot come fast enough this week. ugh.

more later. xo!

bork!bork!bork!

I just watched like 17 episodes of CobraCam.TV tonight!
Apparently the effect is very much like eating a bunch of pixie stix (the colours are all the same, at least).

The other day, in a shop with Roni, looking at a mesh shirt:

Roni, sarcastic: you would wear this with a black bra and look like soooo cool.
Me: Fuck black bras, just two pieces of black electricians tape, in the shape of an X, over the nipples.
Shop Guy: O_____O

what other kind of randomness can I bring up?

I really really really need to start drawing again. I'll need to practice for a bit to get my skills up because I haven't drawn in a while. (this reminds me of some words of wisdom from Gee Way: "you have to keep practising, or else everything just looks like fire hydrants")
I really miss figure drawing. When I was in design school, people always thought I should make comic books because that's what my drawing style looked like. WHY DID I EVER STOP?!!
oh yeah, I became an "adult" and got a "real" job.

no, I really didn't.
I just play one on TV.

But speaking of which, I do have to go into work early tomorrow. There's stuff I've been putting off all week because i just don't time during the day and it really needs to get done. And I want to actually take my full lunch break tomorrow because Rah Rah are playing in the square at lunch time. All week, I've been eating lunch at my desk while I work and then just taking 10-20 minutes to run out and refill on coffee and come back. Tomorrow I'm going to get out in the sun (pleaseletherebesun) and listen to fun happy music and actually take a break. yepyep.

And then friday, FolkFest begins. I really really hope it's not Rain!fest, but I think it's going to be. I was still on the fence about seeing k-os, but then I woke up this morning to "Crabbuckit" on the CBC and was like yes! Totally going! By myself for the 2nd year in a row because I apparently have this invisible sign above my head that says "it's cool to ditch me! Ask me how".

but I digress..

I should really go to bed, considering I have to leave the house in 7 hours.

Here, have a spiderweb. Straight from Saskatoon to my camera to your heart.

Fall Out Boy and Saskatoon weekend recap

hello hello there! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I sure did.
Saturday, Roni and I went to Saskatoon for the day to see Fall Out Boy. I don't really have any pictures except for what Roni took with her camera and they're kind of shaky and blurry.
Here are a couple though: (iPhoto cleans up photos nicely!)

I love the "FOB" letters! They lit up too, in red. I also love how Patrick is barely taller than the letters. :)

Pete and Joe.

But! It was superfuntimes.
We were both a little star-struck. Roni by Blink 182, me by FOB.

Apparently, as everyone and their dog had to tell me afterwards, FOB were "really boring". I was told that no one was into them and they just sucked the energy out of the crowd. I wouldn't know, because I was in my own little fangirl world. I was the mayor of Fangirlville. I danced my ass off and was literally dripping with sweat by the end of the show. My jeans were stuck to me and my shirt was see though! Smexy, I know.

Roni kept giving me these looks that said "smile any harder dork, and your face will split in two". I was just &hearts_____&hearts for the entire show.

I had a fucking awesome time. They played a good cross-section of songs from all their albums and ended with "Saturday", so I was a happy happy fangirl. I would love to see them do a show where they're the headliners.

Next up was the actual headliners, Blink. I was excited for about the first 2 songs, then I got over it pretty quick. I was too hot and super thirsty and tired from dancing and singing to All American Rejects (who were really good, even if Tyson Ritter's a bit of an asshole), and FOB, that by time the Blink show was in full swing, I just wanted to sit down. I got jostled around and separated from Roni but I just let her fight her way to the front and have a good time. I hung by the side of the barricade.

I only recognised like 5 songs and everything else was foreign to me. I thought the live show itself was really overblown. Tons of lights and video screens. I felt like I was watching a performance at the MMVAs or something. And really, Tom Delonge, congratulations, you have a dick. Do you have to talk about it every 5 minutes? ugh. I actually found myself rolling my eyes through much of the performance.

I will say this though: Travis Barker is a fucking brilliant drummer. He did this solo at the end and the whole crowd was just blown away.

We were in Saskatoon for the entire afternoon, so we did a bit of shopping. I wanted to go shopping on Broadway, but the Fringe Festival was on, so the parking situation was a bit of a nightmare. And Roni gets cranky if she has to spend more than 2 minutes finding a spot, so I told her not to worry about it.
We went to a candy store in one of the malls (i forget which) and I got the only Star Wars pez I'm missing: R2D2 (nerd!nerd!nerd!). I'm quite excited about it.
I tried on a pair of lace up, heeled oxfords (you know, the kind I've been looking for for a couple years?!) and very very nearly bought them. I decided against them in the end and am pretty glad I did. i'd beyond broke right now. If I would've bought them, there would've been no grocery money for the week. And grocery money is important. They were at Shoe Warehouse though, and we have one here, so I might go on pay day and see if we have them here.

And now it's only 3 days until Folk Fest here! I got my volunteer schedule - I have to work during Corb Lund's performance! Waaaah.... I'll still be in the park though, so I'll get to see him, I just won't get to actually watch the show. Or maybe I will, while I work. Who knows.
My other two shifts are Saturday morning with this really cute girl I know from around town (no complaints whatsoever) and Sunday afternoon in the children's area. Don't know what I'll be doing yet, but it sounds like it should be a good weekend. I have both Friday and Saturday evening free to watch the shows, so I still get to see k-os and Bedouin Soundclash.

But right now, I'm just a little sad. It's been cloudy all week and it's really starting to affect my mood. Work is really busy and I have a ton of stuff to do at home and am starting to get really stressed out. I had booked next Monday off so that I had a day to myself after Folk Fest weekend. Today i booked Tuesday off too. I just feel like I've had no time to myself and that I've been on the go since coming back from France. So hopefully Monday and Tuesday will be relaxing.

I want to do some sewing and I want to start drawing again. After looking at the amazing artwork that [info]speep does, I'm sad that I stopped drawing!

Okay, time to do the daily exciting tasks of ironing clothes, making lunch and washing my hair.
